Threat Management - Confidence

This is another easy to say thing, something to throw out as a requirement or goal and then ride into the sunset as if anyone was actually helped by this advice. Confidence. If you are a seasoned gunfighter and martial arts master, most people would probably think you would exude confidence. Confidence is great, it flows out and makes the wolves nervous. While confidence can come from skills and experience, I think there is another source and that source is how you actually feel inside yourself. Not necessarily an aura from within, probably not now spiritually-based (given the built-in meekness of most religious faiths in current society), it is much less than that. It is as simple as how you actually feel about yourself and your place in the world. If this is coming from external influences, it's not real. This needs to be self-generated. If not, it's false.
Carrying a 44 Magnum or wearing a Rolex will not make you any more confident - thinking that you are mostly satisfied with yourself will give you confidence. You may want to improve some of your qualities, everyone probably at least wants to improve himself/herself. That shouldn't detract from what you are. Begin to think of yourself as an independent person. You can do what you want, so you choose to feel the way you do about yourself. When you can get to this point, then you'll know whether something external is going to affect you in a positive or negative way.
From my earlier example, if you're pretty confident with who you are and you want a Rolex, would it make any difference whether you were the only person who would ever know you were wearing it? If it wouldn't matter, then you are buying it just for you, not to change you. Maybe this is an odd way to approach confidence vs modern influences that profess to tell you how you should be and what you should own, wear, eat, drive and do. I think all the "should" stuff is garbage. It's turned so many people into docile little sheep, either without the wisdom to be different or sad with life but not knowing what to do about it.
I don't know what it takes to come to some kind of realization that you just won't be a sheep, you're no longer part of the herd. Perhaps it is just a random series of events or reading something that triggers a sense of self-identity. Something you might try reading is by John Eldredge, either "Wild at Heart" (written primarily for men) or "Captivating" (written primarily for women). These are written from a Christian perspective, but not from the modern mild and gutless form in which the Bible is usually interpreted. While recommending books, another which may be enlightening is "The Christian Warrior" by Gabriel Suarez. This is a direct look at the real Bible. It will give you a true spiritual basis for examining yourself while dismissing the current baggage of what is usually called "Christianity" these days. Current Christianity applauds the sheep and scorns the wolf. Mr. Suarez shows why this is an incredibly false view of scriptural interpretation.
When you realize the capacity you have and what you are capable of becoming, confidence will soon follow. And, you may well find that confidence has been inside you all along.
