Are You Serious?

Someone asked me whether I would be interested in teaching a class for him, and he said he already had a list of people who were also interested. I'm thinking something on guns or maybe how to tune up a Harley - couldn't be much other than those topics. He says he wants a class on how to be a man. This must be a joke. I'm told otherwise. I had only thought that our society had drifted a bit off course. Now I find myself staring right into it. In John Wayne's last film "The Shootist," he said "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them." I figured men just chose some kind of saying like that, their own code, and went on with life.

Do men really not know how to be what they are? If true, men must go through life with all kinds of problems. If being a man could be taught in a class, I'd make a very poor instructor if the class had to follow any guidelines on political correctness or interaction with others. This wouldn't be a 'turn these guys into wolves' class, it would have to be much more basic than that. Too basic for any class that one could teach.

From my usual dark view of life, the entire situation does make sense. If we (as a collective) want a meek and obedient society, then we need to indoctrinate men into becoming sheep. We need to do that with women, too, but since nobody asked me to teach a class on how to be a woman (thankfully), I don't need to address that here. I guess if you do need to know how to be a man, look inside yourself and ask God for help. Just standing around bleating will do you no good. No one is listening.
