Threat Management - Carrying Weapons
If you've recently decided to start carrying one or more weapons with you, there are countless sources for holster, sheath and belt recommendations. It usually takes most people several attempts to come up with a usable carry method since people, like knives and guns, are all a little different. When you get the carry part worked out, then it's presumed that you how have hidden weapons at your disposal. A few things may not make the weapon as hidden as you think. You must be completely comfortable and at ease with it. Most people will find a few extra pounds disconcerting and just the thought of a loaded gun makes others hesitant. People want to check and make sure the weapon is still wherever it was ten minutes ago. They'll worry someone will see it. They'll be overly aware they are carrying it.
Something that should be mentioned: for those who expose a firearm that is meant to be concealed to get a reaction from others, those people are just sheep hoping guns will make them something they are not. They can be ignored unless they become an overt threat. None of this is intended for those clowns anyway, but it is important to realize that they do exist and they will do stupid things. So, best to avoid them altogether. Some wolf will take their gun away from them anyway.
Being uncomfortable with a new "habit" is completely natural. Some weapons and spare ammunition can make for a lot of things to get comfortable carrying around with you all the time. If you can, try to carry a gun where part of your body will actually feel some part of the gun. That will let you skip checking it since you can feel it is there. If you're serious about defending yourself, then you should be equally serious about carrying weapons - so carry them all the time. Everywhere you can, at home, while mowing the lawn or raking leaves, while sitting in a chair reading. You have to pack all the stuff around long enough that you no longer really notice it. Then you'll be comfortable with it and your outward appearance will be of just you, not a nervous you.
You need to appear relaxed because some threats will look for signs of who may be armed, though I think this is much more overstated than a true consideration. But, might as well keep it in mind. The average person is never going to notice you have a concealed weapon. Sheep wouldn't notice if you were carrying a rocket launcher around with you. It's much more important that you appear relaxed so you will actually be relaxed. If you choose to use one of your weapons, you can begin from an alert, steady state rather than an anxious one. Just become used to what you are carrying. The weapons won't do anything unless you use them, the weapons will not make you anything other than who you are without them. They are just tools, no more or less. You'd be relaxed carrying a pair of pliers, you can be equally relaxed carrying a gun.
