People Are Scared
After looking at some sales numbers for the last part of 2008 and the first of 2009, there must be a tremendous number of people who have decided that they, too, are going to cling to religion and guns. While I don’t have any idea whether more Bibles are selling now, I remember the last so-called assault weapons ban and it pales in comparison with what’s being purchased now. I have seen several months’ worth of inventory – approximately 100,000 rounds of rifle ammunition – sell out in two days. 50,000 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition sold in a few hours. A prominent AR-15 rifle manufacturer is backordered over 100,000 rifles. And the magazines for AR-15s will sell by the hundreds per hour when available at all. One pistol maker is running three months behind demand. Ammunition has become difficult to obtain at all in any quantities. All of this gun and ammo demand is for personal protection and military-type weapons. Even short-barreled shotguns, usually called “riot” guns, have sold out in many places. Meanwhile, the traditional hunting rifles are collecting dust.
It seems there is little interest in hunting right now, which is odd because many hunters I know, and politicians I hear, all talk of the 2nd Amendment applying to hunting and other “approved” uses for firearms. There’s little mention of large-capacity guns that were designed to kill people quickly.
I really don’t know who’s buying all this armament. Those I associate with already have what we need and have had it for years. I don’t see the sheep suddenly deciding to arm themselves, they trust implicitly that the government will take care of them. The sheep don’t need guns, they are afraid of guns, they don’t even want the rest of us to have guns.
Do we have some actual, real, thinking people out there who have decided they are responsible for themselves and that if they need guns, they will really need guns that were designed for fighting? People who realize that the 2nd Amendment is there to protect us from other people, not small furry animals? If so, then welcome, and learn how to use what you’ve bought.
