Threat Management - The Helpless

At some point, you are going to end up in a situation where you see someone else in distress and you (hopefully) have the ability to save her or him from harm. You’re tough and capable so they look to you for rescue. Before you jump into the unknown to play hero, better be sure that is exactly what you are doing. Threats, the bad wolves, are cunning. They know how to look helpless, vulnerable and in trouble. Because someone appears to have a problem, be sure that you’re using your own instincts and cunning to verify everything you are presented with. This requires a high degree of fast thinking and subsequent judgment on your part. If you can’t do that, then you probably shouldn’t be trying to help anybody. Call 911 and then try to help yourself come up with some faster thinking skills.

If you determine that someone is in danger, then you can decide whether or not to help. You are the only person who can say whether you need to help. There’s no moral directive telling you to do anything, unless you’ve adopted one, at which time I’d suggest you reevaluate that decision. Even when someone is in danger and you save him or her, you have about even odds that the person will turn against you anyway. The intended victim will be so stunned by the events that you cause to happen that you will end up being judged as evil. Make sure it’s worth it. Sometimes, it is. That depends on your own moral code. There are some events that I will not allow to unfold in front of me, so I will stop them as fast and efficiently as possible. But, those are also rare.

If you determine that the victim isn’t a victim, that you’re being set up for an attack, then if you have some distance in your favor, just leave the situation. There’s no reason to advance into a fight that you can avoid. Often, I’ll suggest a preemptive attack, but in these cases, you will likely be visible to others. Those others are the sheep. They are watching, but they’re not about to do anything. They already see a “victim.” If you institute a vigorous attack on the victim, the sheep will now all be against you. They can’t really do anything, but it makes for a confusing situation when you’re attempting to get out of the area later.

Remember, you are not a sheepdog. Your loyalty is to yourself and those you choose to have in your personal care. Please be careful around the helpless, especially if you are assimilating the qualities of a wolf. If the helpless really knew you, they would be more afraid of you than of the perceived threats they are facing, which is as it should be. If the helpless are not really what they seem, be ready for that possibility and do what you need to do.
