What Is The Truth?

Despite exposure to multiple news outlets and several of the government’s own websites, I find it increasingly difficult to ascertain whether what I hear from the government is actually or even partially true. The government is doing all kinds of things to fix all the horrible ills that have befallen the country. At least that is what I am told. “How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don’t think.” That could be the problem – I have found myself thinking.

When I heard that many financial institutions were going broke, and the solution was to give them even more money, though they lost all the money they had in the first place, that is when I began to think. The spend to fix message is now the cry of the president. Actually, the president said a lot of things before becoming the president, promising change and prosperity but didn’t really articulate what kinds of change and who would end up prosperous. I wondered about those pronouncements, but of course now that the election is over, “the victor will never be asked if he told the truth.” I suppose the president is so incredibly popular that there is little point in questioning his statements.

“The broad masses of a population are more amenable to the appeal of rhetoric than to any other force.” That is exactly what all the words coming from government sound like to me. Just words streaming out while bills are passed (are these bills even read by anyone?) and money shoveled in all directions. I guess the government is popular, or surely some people would question what is happening and why. The mass media was sure quick to question everything done or discussed by the former administration. Not so with the current one. The president says that despite the money spent, the deficit can also be cut in half. Is that not rhetoric at its best? I should probably stop thinking about it, but something keeps bothering me, like a not quite remembered thought with an unwanted conclusion.

All quotes are from Adolf Hitler.
